The Problem With Open Forums On SEO

Problem? Why would I say problem? I belong to a few online forums and link/traffic review sites. These site are mainly visited by new web masters trying to learn the business of online commerce. The problem lies that also many "experts" I* say sarcastically as these are people who have a world of information, and it is all wrong. Myths get spread around in these forums as well as very bad SEO advice. I believe the majority of these people have received their information from e-books from internet "gurus", and internet marketers. The information that is passed along is decades old, sure they worked in the '90's but will often get you banned if you implement them now. And most of these tend to be based on PageRank and Alexa traffic rank strategies. And One avid "Expert" keeps singing the praises of getting Directory links. These all have their place, I am not saying one should not try to get a good PageRank, but I would say your strategy should first be GET FREE SEARCH ENGINE VISITORS!

Optimising your site for a good ranking in the search engine results page should be goal number one. Face it, if your site is on page 159, the only one looking at your website/blog is you. With a Page One SERP, you will get all the traffic you need. With a constant flow of visitors your sites traffic ranking like those of Alexa, Compete and QuantCast will get better and better. You get traffic from good SERP, not the other way around. And when you are on page one you will find other sites linking to you without you even having to ask, this will then grow your PageRank.
