Are SERP's Dead?

Is Google now flirting with subjective search results? Google is developing the ability to follow you around the www, learning your search history and patterns. What does this mean? Simply put, your SERP Position may soon be obsolete. If you get five different people searching for the same word, but because of third party cookies Google can Bias the results based on the persons search history, giving five different search engine results pages. Like wise Google is now flirting with a cookie in their adsense, this means your ads will now show ads based on the visitors surfing history. While many say this is the death nail fro SEO, I would strongly disagree. Even if Google bias the results, the results will still be based on good optimised content. And not to mention that believe it or not, people actually use other search engines. I would not worry too much about this new fad Google is playing with, if your site is well optimised, you should still get around the same number of quarries. Here is a video explaining it a bit further. Enjoy.

many webmasters have wondered what is wrong with Google. They see Yahoo may have 6500 back links to their site while Google may show only 6. Many have

Many web master seem to want to do their sites backwards. They build their sites, then they worry about SEO. If you would build your sites with SEO in mind this could make your efforts a little easier and pay off bigger in the long run.

First thing you should do when creating your site is keyword research. Do some research into finding a group of related keyword phrases. One of the best tools for this is GooGle keyword suggestion tool, and it is FREE. Simply create a Google account and log in to the AdWords program. From there you can use their suggestion tool by simply putting in a keyword and hitting find related keywords. Google will give you a list of related keywords, their search volume and more importantly the competitiveness of that keyword. Find keyword phrases, those are two and three word combinations, and find those that are not competitive. You will get much better (search engine results page) rankings if you will do this. Find about five or so related phrases to maximise the keywords you will get a good rank on.

Now that you have chosen the correct keywords build your sites content. Place these words in your content, and remember Google looks for how these words are placed on your site. Try to have these words near each other in the same paragraph at least. Google sees these related keywords near each other and learns what your site is about and decides the of your sites keywords by this.

Next Place your strongest keywords into your title. This is where a lot of new webmaster go very wrong. This is not the title of your site, it is the page title. This should have your best keywords in them. this is the first thing the visitor is going to see when they do a search, they will see your page title and then either the description or a snippet from your page. The title is a meta tag, and unless you believe people will be searching for the phrase "Welcome to our online shop", you are wasting your time unless you have your keywords listed here. Now a word of wisdom to you. Give each page a DIFFERNT title, use your keywords for that page and optimise each page for a different keyword phrase would even be a good idea. By doing this you enhance your sites ability to rank well for multiple keyword phrases.

I would also strongly suggest using your main keywords in your same site links. This means in your menu, the words you use to point to different pages on your site, make the links text match your keywords if possible.

Next plaice the keywords in your description tag, Your main keywords I would use at least two times here, and then your related keywords after that. In general your main keyword phrase should be first in you contents, title and in your description. The title and description are probably the most important meta tags there is so use them correctly.

I know a lot of you have heard that search engines do not use meta tags info any more. This is absolute nonsense. If you do a search for any word, any word at all if you look at the results you will see that word probably in the title, description and sometimes even in the URL. There is a little bit of truth in what they are saying, they just don't really know what they are really talking about. With search engines, the only thing about meta tags that are relevant is the meta keyword tag. I say irrelevant because long ago search engines relied heavily on this tag to place your site in it's but not so now. This tag is still seen and used by the search engines but it's gravity on your SERP ranking is greatly diminished. I dare anyone who insist that meta tags are not important any more to remove them from there websites and see how close to page one they get!

Now you have built your website from the beginning to the end with SEO, Your chances over the next guy are now outstanding!. Good luck and come back and see us.

many webmasters have wondered what is wrong with Google. They see Yahoo may have 6500 back links to their site while Google may show only 6. Many have speculated (wrongly) that Google only counts one way links, or that maybe because Google does not see the links page on a site that links to them. The truth is Google does see a lot more links than what it shows in a www.site;links search. If you log in to webmaster central you will be able to see all of the back links Google knows about. But why does google only show only a fraction of these on a link search? Simple, it is to be fair and protect your sites ranking from spammers and other web masters trying to get the same links as you to increase their PR. Matt cuff explains it in his video that can be found on Google's web master central YouTube page, (yes they actually have one). Here is the video for you to watch for yourself. In this video Matt also answers questions on "How do I optimise an e-commerce web page"?, Blogs and more, just use the arrows to scroll through different questions.

Does Google have a new SERP Tool?

Google has announced that it has added two new features to its Google search results page. The first being an expanded list of related searches and the second being longer descriptions in the search results listings. Google says they are trying to employ new technology that helps understand the relationship to searches made by individual users. Google is quoted as:

...one of its first applications lets us offer you even more useful related searches (the terms found at the bottom, and sometimes at the top, of the search results page).

For example, if you search for [principles of physics], our algorithms understand that "angular momentum," "special relativity," "big bang" and "quantum mechanic" are related terms that could help you find what you need.

Google says it can now make even more suggestions of relevant content based on searches and can handle more queries and is available in 37 languages as well.

Webmasters should be asking themselves about right now, "How will this effect my SERP's"? Good question, here's the answer. Because Google will be showing longer snippets in the description and be able to handle larger quarries, this gives the web master a great advantage on their keyword phrases, and sense the snippet's will be larger, this also is advantageous because it gives the webmaster the opportunity to group his related keywords closer together for more exposure of those keywords making the the site more relevant to these new searches. By being able to do this one may see an increase in their SERP's.

Although this may not be the greatest news from Google, it does show us where they may be heading. And allows the savvy SEO an opportunity to optimise their sites even more. We will have to wait and see what comes next with Google. I must admit I miss the good old days when you could just cram a hundred keywords into a page and get great SERP, who knows, maybe google will revert back to a simple meta driven search engine..... Naw!

The Problem With Open Forums On SEO

Problem? Why would I say problem? I belong to a few online forums and link/traffic review sites. These site are mainly visited by new web masters trying to learn the business of online commerce. The problem lies that also many "experts" I* say sarcastically as these are people who have a world of information, and it is all wrong. Myths get spread around in these forums as well as very bad SEO advice. I believe the majority of these people have received their information from e-books from internet "gurus", and internet marketers. The information that is passed along is decades old, sure they worked in the '90's but will often get you banned if you implement them now. And most of these tend to be based on PageRank and Alexa traffic rank strategies. And One avid "Expert" keeps singing the praises of getting Directory links. These all have their place, I am not saying one should not try to get a good PageRank, but I would say your strategy should first be GET FREE SEARCH ENGINE VISITORS!

Optimising your site for a good ranking in the search engine results page should be goal number one. Face it, if your site is on page 159, the only one looking at your website/blog is you. With a Page One SERP, you will get all the traffic you need. With a constant flow of visitors your sites traffic ranking like those of Alexa, Compete and QuantCast will get better and better. You get traffic from good SERP, not the other way around. And when you are on page one you will find other sites linking to you without you even having to ask, this will then grow your PageRank.

Why being number one on Google is so important Google Search Engine

Why is it so important to be number one on Google Search engine? People spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars a week or even a day on advertisements. So what is the difference between conventional advertising and Google Search? Conventional advertising is intrusive and not 100% effective. many people throw away print ads and TV commercials are usually overlooked. They are using a hammer to sale. However, Search allows you to offer what you have for sale to someone who is looking for it and wants it. Your not interrupting their TV show to pitch to them, they are in the mood to buy what you are selling.

The Right Keywords

This is why it is important to make sure you are using the right keywords. The more specific and targeted they are the better success you will have. It is really not about numbers of visitors to your site, it is about getting those visitors to buy. What use is it to have 1000 visitors a day if nobody is buying? I would rather have 20 visitors a day and 10 sales. Find specific keywords for your product that are being searched for, then optimise your site for those words. General words may get you more visitors, but target specific keywords bring you more buyers.

So how much is your keyword worth

How valuable is it for you to have your keyword in the number one spot on Google? Lets suppose that you have your keyword in the number one position on Google's search listing (SERP), and that word brought you 120 visits a day. Using Google's traffic estimator you would see that that particular keyword bid is $1.35, that would mean that number one keyword would cost you $162 a day or $1132 a week to buy that kind of traffic. So now you can see why Search Engine Optimization is much better than ad campaigns. Sure SEO is an investment, but once you have reached your goals then you will be so glad you took the time and energy to learn and incorporate simple SEO.

Bad neighbors

What is having a bad neighbor? Many people are confused about this term. They have heard that having a bad neighbor can hurt their PageRank or even their SERP. But what is a bad neighbor anyway, and how can you tell if you have a bad neighbor?

Think about your server, did you know that some servers may host several websites on the server you are on? If the major of the sights on this server are , your website might be banned on Google. Yup thats right, or be severely punished for it. So the most important thing to know about your server is this. Is your server a dedicated server or a shared server? It is not the domain name of your site but the IP address.

IP addresses are the addresses under which search engines find websites on the Internet. Domain names are only an add-on to the IP addresses.

IP addresses can be shared or dedicated. If you use a shared IP address, there will be many websites that use the same IP address as your website.

If you use a dedicated IP address then your website will be the only site on that address.

So I recommend that you use a dedicated server for each of your websites. It may cost a little more, but it is a good way to protect yourself. Andre says

1. Search engines might use it in their algorithms

Google will tell you that it doesn't matter whether your website has a dedicated IP address or not. However, most of the web pages that can be found on the first result pages have dedicated IP addresses. That's interesting because the vast majority of domains is hosted on a shared IP address.

2. Shared hosting makes your website slower

If you share an IP address with hundreds of other websites then your website might become very slow. If one of the other websites on the server uses a lot of resources then this will affect your own website.

The web server delivers the web pages in the order it receives the requests. If there are more requests to the other websites on your server, the visitors of your website will have to wait before the server sends them your pages.

3. Your website might be in a bad neighborhood

If your website has the same IP address as websites that sell questionable products then your website might get in trouble. If one of the other websites on the server gets banned on Google then your website might get banned, too.

So how can you tell if you have a dedicated or a shared host? Go here, www.axandra.com/free-online-seo-tool/shared-hosting-check.php type in your domain name and find out what other domains share your IP address.

Okay until next time.
